The construction works to lay a service road at the Four Roads Junction here are nearing completion.

The State Highways department began the works to lay the service road between the Four Roads Junction and New Bus stand that was part of the two-tier flyover connecting major junctions in the city. Though the flyover works got over almost a year ago, the service road works got delayed owing to land acquisition issues.

According to officials, a temple had to be removed to facilitate the construction. The works were started after an amicable solution was arrived at regarding shifting the temple. The officials said drainage works had been almost completed for the stretch and road laying works were expected to be completed in two days.

SALEM: Attur is all set to create history by consecrating the world’s tallest Muthumalai Murugan statue on April 6. At 146ft, the statue in Salem is taller than the 140ft Muthumalai Murugan statue in Malaysia.

Actually, it was the Muthumalai Murugan statue in Malaysia that inspired N Sridhar, chairman of Sri Muthumalai Murugar Trust, to build a statue taller than that in his hometown of Attur.

“Not many people can visit Malaysia to worship the deity. Now, people can come to Salem to worship Muthumalai Murugan,” Sridhar said.Sridhar, a businessman from Attur, decided to construct a temple and Muthumalai Murugan statue on his land in 2014. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has issued a request for proposal to select a consultant to conduct feasibility study for introducing Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) to ensure congestion-free traffic in Salem, Trichy and Tirunelveli cities.

According to the order, the CMRL said, based on the state’s direction, it has invited e-tenders on single stage from suitable consultant, who should be a registered sole proprietorship firm or consultancy having a registered office in India and incorporated under the Company Act 1956/2013, for the eligibility for preparation of feasibility study report for introducing a Mass Rapid Transit System in these three cities. Interested parties shall submit the bid in two parts – technical and financial. The technical bid shall include the details for fulfilling eligibility criteria as laid down in the tender document, said the order.
